Well…it’s about darn time, Bob!

Ok.  I’ve kind of ignored this for a while. I won’t go into any reasons. Just know I’m back!

Let’s get to a trailer I’m really liking; Mission Impossible:Fallout!

Rumors are this is the last go round for Tom Cruise in the MI series…I guess we’ll see!

Next, Denzel Washington is back as “The Equalizer”. And this time, it’s personal…which they say about every flick like this…

The latest Marvel Universe picture got released this weekend…”The Ant Man and the Wasp”

On track as of mid-day Sunday to do an $80 million dollar weekend…and it helps answer the question of where Ant Man was during Avengers:Infinity War!

Finally, if you get a chance and can find a theater playing it, go see “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”. The story of Fred Rogers is touching, funny and very uplifting…

See you @ the Cinema!

Hey…where did I go!

Well…it’s a long story but since I last posted a year and a half ago or so I’ve changed full time jobs, gotten over being peeved at WordPress for changing their policy on video postings, and just generally needed a little break from things…with the busy holiday season coming…it’s time to get back in the saddle!

Here’s the trailer that ties the Hobbit movies into the Lord of the Rings films…I may be sitting in on the day long run of the Hobbit movies at the Ho-Chunk Cinema in Tomah, WI on December 15th just to kill the day…

This weekend, I’m sitting down with my LOTR sets and geeking out a little.

How about Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard in Pan?

This weekend at the movies….

The guys are back and in business for themselves…until it gets stolen from them so their back out for revenge! Just go for Jennifer Aniston’s lines…worth the admission!

One for the kids out this week is Penguins of Madagascar:

Have a safe and fun Thanksgiving weekend…see you next week!

Oh…here’s a bonus trailer…

Step Up to the box office, just Watch what you’re seeing!

The thing I’m most excited about this week isn’t even a movie, it’s the trailer for Cloud Atlas:

I haven’t read the book, in fact I knew very little about this movie until now, but I can’t wait for October 26th now!

As the summer film window begins to wind down, we start seeing some of the releases that the studios hope will see some traffic against the blockbusters that they are still out there.

Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill star in The Watch, about a neighborhood watch team that stumbles upon an alien plot to take over the earth!

Written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg with some liberal improv from Ben, Vince and Jonah…if you want to laugh this weekend here’s a sure bet!

The Step Up series of movies is back with Step Up Revolution, as a dance troupe tries to create change and prevent a neighborhood from being destroyed through dance!

I’m not too into these movies, but if you like to watch some good dance moves..head for this!

Another movie trailer that looks amazing is for Ang Lee’s take on the novel Life of Pi:

Here’s one for next spring called Epic, an animated film from the folks that brought you Ice Age and Rio:

Coming soon on Blu-Ray….Jaws!

This hits the shelves on August 14th! This is a must have!

C’ya Tuesday for the weekend review!

I posted the following on my Facebook page  about Dark Knight Rises, and just wanted to share it with all my followers: I just wanted to add how terrible I feel about what happened in Colorado. A movie theater should be a place to put aside the troubles of the real world and kick back and have a little fantasy time. Reality has never put it’s foot inside of a cinema like this before…and I hope it never does again. I’ll just add in what Christopher Nolan said in his statement about this tragedy, “I believe movies are one of the great American art forms and the shared experience of watching a story unfold on screen is an important and joyful pastime. The movie theatre is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me.” I couldn’t have put it any better that he does…but even I admit it’ll be a bit before I feel like it’s home again for me. We knew it would do well:

1 The Dark Knight Rises (2012) $161M $161M 1
2 Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012) $20.4M $88.8M 2
3 The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) $10.9M $229M 3
4 Ted (2012) $10M $180M 4
5 Brave (2012) $6.02M $209M 5
6 Magic Mike (2012) $4.29M $102M 4
7 Savages (2012) $3.4M $40.1M 3
8 Madea’s Witness Protection(2012) $2.25M $60.3M 4
9 Moonrise Kingdom (2012) $1.83M $36.1M 9
10 To Rome with Love (2012) $1.42M $11.1M 5

It’s been a fairly strong summer at the box office between Avengers, Amazing Spider-Man, Brave and now the Dark Knight Rises.  It’ll be interesting to see how this summer compares to the past. Not much out on video today but one set has been eagerly awaited by it’s die hard fans.

Here’s a real good comparison trailer:

Game of Thrones Season One is out today on Blu-Ray as well.  Here’s a clip from the Blu-Ray that sets up the entire story:

Here’s a preview from the season:

Over on Starz, Kelsey Grammer stars in Boss, and you’ve never seen him like this:

As far as movies I’m excited to see…how about the latest production video from The Hobbit:

In front of Dark Knight Rises came the first trailer for next summer’s reboot of Superman. Man of Steel.  there are two different trailers, one with the voice of Jor-El done by Russell Crowe and the other with the voice of Jonathan Kent done by Kevin Costner.

Just to trow it in, here’s the international trailer for Django Unchained:

Don’t be a Stooge, mi Padre!

As expected, Ice Age: Continental Drift tops the weekend box office:

1 Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012) $46.6M $46.6M 1
2 The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) $34.6M $201M 2
3 Ted (2012) $22.4M $159M 3
4 Brave (2012) $11.2M $196M 4
5 Savages (2012) $9.39M $32.1M 2
6 Magic Mike (2012) $9.02M $91.8M 3
7 Madea’s Witness Protection (2012) $5.58M $55.6M 3
8 Katy Perry: Part of Me (2012) $3.8M $18.7M 2
9 Moonrise Kingdom (2012) $3.7M $32.5M 8
10 Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted (2012) $3.67M $204M 6

Amazing Spider-Man swings in with 201 million in it’s first two weeks while Seth MacFarlane’s Ted earns another 22.4 million to have a 159 million dollar take in 3 weeks.

Out on video in whatever form you take it today:

Sean Hayes, Will Sasso and Chris Diamantopolous team with the Farrelly brothers for a modern take on The Three Stooges.  It’s a good homage to the guys but nothing can beat the originals!

Will Ferrell tries comedy in Spanish with Casa de mi Padre.  It’s actually really funny once you get past the fact that the jokes are both on screen and in the subtitles!

Quite a few of the cast members of Bridesmaids appear in Friends With Kids, written and directed by Jennifer Westfeldt about two frinds who decide to have a child together but keep thir relationship platonic.

On the more serious side (not really…it’s actually got some great humor in it), Salmon Fishing In The Yemen stars Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt as McGregor plays a fisheries expert asked to introduce fishing to a desert oasis.

Mel Gibson returns to his Mad Max/Lethal Weapon form in Get The Gringo…and boy is it fun!

One of my all time favorite films is out in a 60th Anniversary Blu-Ray edition today:

Singin’ In The Rain is a must have for any collection!

And suddenly…three months have passed….that’s an Ice Age in the movie business!

I’d say I’ve been busy (which I have been) but that’s no real excuse.  So instead let’s move on and see what can be found in theaters this week!

The whole gang is back for Ice Age: Continental Drift plus a few new folks including Aziz Ansari, Jennifer Lopez, Drake and more!  It’s almost like a mini reboot for the franchise and there’s already been talk that some of the voice tracks for a fifth installment have already been recorded.  Let’s hope so…these have been some of the funniest animated films over the last decade.

Comic-Con is going on this weekend in San Diego and it’s become the place where all the film studios release info on the movies we’ll be checking out next year and beyond.

The big buzz yesterday was created for films coming from Disney.

Sam Raimi is teaming with the Mouse House to deliver “Oz, The Great and Powerful”.  Based more on the Baum book but still giving a nod to Warner’s “The Wizard of Oz”, it stars James Franco as the Wizard and features Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz and looks amazing!  It’s due out next summer.

Also from Disney is “Wreck-It Ralph”, about a video game bad guy who doesn’t want to be the bad guy anymore.  With voice work from John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch and appearances from tons of your favorite video game characters…this looks like tons of fun!

Tim Burton and Disney are teaming again, this time for a full version of Tim’s short film “Frankenweenie” about a boy who brings his dog back to life.

They also showed footage from next year’s “The Lone Ranger” with Arnie Hammer in the title role and Johnny Depp as Tonto.  I’ll add footage if it gets posted.

Out in a few weeks is “Dredd” starring Karl Urban as Judge Dredd.  The following clip is very violent and bloody…kids click at your own peril!

Sony showed an IMAX trailer for the James Bond film “Skyfall” it should be attached to “The Dark Knight Rises” next week.  Here’s the original teaser trailer from a month or two ago.

Since I mentioned “The Dark Knight Rises”, I’ll be at the midnight show on Thursday night at the Ho-Chunk Cinema in Tomah to watch it if anyone cares to join me.  Strap yourselves in…it’s just a shade under two hours and forty-five minutes long!

It’s good to be back…it’s a great time for films!

Hunger Games Eating It Up At The Box Office!

Guess what’s on top for the fourth week in a row:

1 The Hunger Games (2012) $21.1M $337M 4
2 The Three Stooges (2012) $17M $17M 1
3 The Cabin in the Woods (2011) $14.7M $14.7M 1
4 Titanic (1997) $11.9M $44.7M 2
5 American Reunion (2012) $10.5M $39.7M 2
6 Wrath of the Titans (2012) $6.91M $71.3M 3
7 Mirror Mirror (2012) $6.85M $49.3M 3
8 21 Jump Street (2012) $6.56M $120M 5
9 Lockout (2012) $6.23M $6.23M 1
10 Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax (2012) $3.05M $205M 7

Lionsgate is anxious to get started filming the next of the series for the Hunger Games called Catching Fire but Games director Gary Ross stated last week that he doesn’t want to do it. The search is on for the next director.

Of last week’s movies, The Three Stooges was best with a 17 million dollar take followed by Joss Whedon’s Horror/SciFi film The Cabin In The Woods.  The Titanic 3D release pulled in a total of 44 million since it’s release the prior Wednesday.

This week on DVD and Blu-Ray…

Brad Bird’s live action directorial debut is also one of the best action movies made in the last five years.  If you missed this in the theaters, find the best possible home setup and enjoy the thrill ride!

On Blu-Ray today as part of the Universal Studios 100th Anniversary series comes Bud Abbott and Lou Costello in their first starring feature film Buck Privates:

David Attenborough narrates the BBC version of Frozen Planet.  It is airing right now in the US on the Discovery Channel with a new narration recorded by Alec Baldwin:

Here’s a new trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man from Japan:

Here’s a cool documentary about voice over artists called I Know That Voice:

Joesph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis star in a twisted time flick called Looper:

Lionsgate had a “Hunger” for the weekend box office!

“The Hunger Games” took in $152.5 million dollars making it the third biggest opening weekend of all time, besting “Spider-Man 3”.

“21 Jump Street” came in 2nd adding another $20.5 million to it’s take, followed by”Dr. Suess’ The Lorax”, “John Carter” and “Act of Valor”.

Coming out today on DVD and Blu-Ray:

Jason Lee is back as David Seville with the Chipmunks and the Chipettes tagging along on a cruise ship and of course they wind up…Chipwrecked!  Great family fun…for the little kids, not the teens!

Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock and Thomas Horn star in a moving film about a family shattered by the events of 9-11 and a childs attempt to find his way afterward.  A must see but keep the Kleenex handy!

David Cronenberg reteams with Viggo Mortenson as they tell the tale of Sigmund Freud meeting Carl Jung and the methods and theories they shared on love and sex.  Very well done and I’ll see Viggo in anything. Add Keira Knightly and I’m sold! Not for the young or teens.

It was already planned for release around this time, but the death of Whitney Houston makes it noteworthy to see the release of “The Bodyguard” on Blu-Ray:

My Blu-Ray of the Week is the 70th Anniversary edition of Casablanca:

You owe it to yourself to see Casablanca if you haven’t watched it, and if you have, to see it again.  Get this for your archives!

Save the trees…or burn down the house…choose wisely!

Sorry it’s been a week or so since I updated…it’s been a busy February for a Leap Year…

This week has two major releases, one for the family and one for…well if your liked Fast Times at Ridgemont High or The Hangover films and wanted to see them put together, you’ve got your chance.

First up is Dr. Suess’ The Lorax with voice work from Ed Helms, Zac Efron, Danny DeVito, Betty White and country sweetheart and budding actress Taylor Swift:

Universal takes a 30 page book and turns it into great family fun…see it in 3D with the kids…and remember to save the trees!

Project X is all about three outcast kids who want to throw a birthday party and how it gets completely out of hand!

From the gang that brought you Old School and The Hangover films, this one is rated R and makes Hangover look tame by some standards.

I didn’t talk about this one on the air because it’s in limited release but I did manage to catch a portion of it on HDNet Wednesday Night…Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie.

From the from the twisted minds of cult comedy heroes Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, creators of Tim and Eric’s Awesome Show, Good Job from Adult Swim called in favors from John C. Reilly, Will Ferrell, Zack Galifinakis, Robert Loggia and more to star in this mindless little film that is actually quite funny at times.  You can go to You Tube right now and watch the whole film for $6.99 or pay a buck more for HD.  Turn off logic and throw Tim and Eric some love!

New Trailers this week include…The Avengers!

All the story threads that have been running through the various Marvel Character movies over the last few years, come together in this film as Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, The Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye are put together by Nick Fury to save the earth!

How about the teaser trailer for Dispicable Me 2, schedule for release in 2013:

Here’s a lengthy video but it’s the latest blog from Peter Jackson on the set of the two Hobbit films being shot down in New Zealand:

Tim Burton re-visits one of his earliest efforts with a new 3D version of the stop-motion film FrankenWeenie:

Next week sees the release of the highly anticipated John Carter from Disney.  Go read the Edgar Rice Burroughs books, they are classic science fiction!

Nic Cage goes to hell…again! And you can hear Carol Burnett on the big screen!

Nicolas Cage is back as Johnny Blaze in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.  Johnny is hiding out in Eastern Europe when the devil tries to return in human form.

After a week delay, This Means War is out starring Tom Hardy, Chis Pine and Reese Witherspoon.  Tom and Chris’s character are partners in the C.I.A. who both fall in love with Reese’s character who may or may not be playing both ends off the middle:

Disney Studio’s continues their series of bringing quality Japanimation to America.  This time it’s the adapatation of the book The Borrowers, re-titled The Secret World of Arrietty.  Voice work from Amy Poehler, Will Arnett and Carol Burnett make this one a movie to catch:

Here’s a clip with Carol Burnett:

This one is out in limited release, but it’s set in Kenosha so I thought I’d include it.  Plus it looks very much like a Coen Brothers movie…but it’s not.  Starring Greg Kinnear, Billy Crudup, Alan Arkin and Lea Thompson…it’s called Thin Ice:

Here’s the trailer for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.  Is it an Alien Prequel?

How about the next movie from the gang that brought you The Hangover?

Since we’ve gone there…here’s American Pie: Reunion:

We’ll round it out today with another look at The Avengers trailer:
